Aloes or Problem Based Behavioral Science and Psychiatry

Aloes: The Genus Aloe (Medicinal and Aromatic Plants- Industrial Profiles Series)

Author: Tom Reynolds

Aloes are a large genus of plants, about 450 species, from sub-Saharan Africa, Madagascar, and parts of Arabia. Many species are widespread in warm or tropical semi-arid regions, yet the distribution of others is limited to a few living in desert or wet mountainous regions. While some species have been adopted as medicinal plants since ancient times and others are used locally in folk medicine, scientists have yet to discover the full biological activity of the many aloe compounds. In order to realize the vast potential of the genus, it is essential to gather the knowledge acquired over the last fifty years into one comprehensive compilation. A landmark publication, Aloes: The genus Aloes reviews all botanical, chemical, biochemical, and medical information as well as commercial applications of aloes. The first part of the book features information on the habitat and taxonomy of aloes, followed by a section on aloe constituents. Part 3 focuses on therapeutic activity and includes chapters on aloe's role in wound healing, skin cancer, and the immune system. The final section is devoted to aloe biology. Chapters are written by accomplished contributors who share their expertise and insight from all areas of academia and industry. Providing a solid foundation for future research, this volume brings together a wealth of information on aloes from a variety of sources, including seldom-recorded folk customs. It is a valuable guide for researchers and professionals in the areas of botany, natural product chemistry, pharmacology, dermatology, and immunology.

Problem-Based Behavioral Science And Psychiatry

Author: Anthony Guerrero

Students of behavioral science, whether residents in psychiatry, graduate students in psychology or clinical social work, or third– and fourth–year medical students preparing for the USMLE Step 1 and 2 examinations, need to understand patients' behavior, how to communicate effectively, and how to recognize and deal with psychiatric disorders. Problem–based learning involves the detailed, systematic study of real and fictitious patient cases. Although more than sixty medical schools incorporate problem–based learning in their curricula, there are no current textbooks to support and guide this aspect of courses in behavioral sciences, behavioral medicine, or psychiatry.

This book presents simulated patient cases in psychiatry and behavioral science, providing a real–world context for students and graduates in these areas. It introduces the topics described below through detailed case vignettes using a model of problem–based learning called progressive disclosure. Sample diagrams known as mechanistic case diagrams illustrate the neurobiological mechanisms underlying behavioral symptoms and show how behavioral and psychosocial factors impact on patient care.

Elements of Pharmaceutical Pricing

Author: EM Mick Kolassa

Elements of Pharmaceutical Pricing shows account managers, product managers, marketing researchers, and other practitioners in the pharmaceutical industry how to improve your marketing and pricing skills. By describing the process for reaching pricing decisions and clarifying the environment of pharmaceutical marketing, this book demystifies the area of pharmaceutical pricing and shows how to use prices to capture the value of products instead of lowering their value.

Recent pharmaceutical pricing decisions have reflected uninformed, emotional, and short-term thinking. Elements of Pharmaceutical Pricing shows you how to avoid these kinds of decisions, helping you refine your pricing skills and increase your firm's profitability by:

  • showing you how to determine the value of a pharmaceutical product
  • outlining a pricing philosophy that addresses the politics and problems you'll encounter
  • tracing the pricing research process
  • examining the role of price in the decision to purchase, prescribe, or use pharmaceuticals
  • addressing the challenges facing the industry in the future
As Dr. Kolassa explains in the Foreword, Elements of Pharmaceutical Pricing aims to “help create within [pharmaceutical] firms, and the industry, something that has been long overdue—the ability to 'price on purpose,’to make pricing decisions that are less emotional and more informed. This volume does not contain all the answers, but I believe it does pose many of the right questions, to help those charged with pricing to make informed decisions, to understand the likely implications of their pricing actions before taking them. This information should lead to better,more profitable pricing in the industry.”

Kenneth Witte

This book provides information on the various elements that cuurently go into, as well as those that should go into, the pricing of pharmaceutical products. The purpose of this book is to provide a framework for making pricing decisions on pharmaceuticals based on informative ""pricing on purpose,"" rather than pricing on emotion. Various elements in the pricing decision process are outlined and implications discussed with the intent of leading the reader through the various actions needed to make rational decisions in pricing pharmaceuticals. This book is targeted primarily to the marketing staff of the pharmaceutical industry and to the buyers of pharmaceutical products who deal with issue of price. This book provides the reader with the various elements of pricing pharmaceuticals to capture the value of the product in terms of other healthcare goods and services, rather than the concept of pricing just to move more unit volume. The author outlines the logical steps for the pharmaceutical pricing research process that helps reduce the uncertainty and risk in making pricing decisions. The book emphasizes the importance of knowing the terminology of the market place, the role of the changes in health care, the characteristics of patient and disease for which the product is used, the value of the therapy, public policy, the company needs, and other elements that should go into the price decision-making process of pharmaceuticals. Numerous examples and figures make the text easy to follow. Examples of pricing are given from different settings (retail, hospital, wholesale, etc.) and one can easily see the need for more rational pricing. This is an extremely useful reference forinformation on how pricing should be done and what considerations need to go into the decision making process of pricing pharmaceuticals. The objectives of the book are worthy and well met. The book should be a reference source for anyone involved in pricing pharmaceuticals.

The Hardness Factor: How to Achieve Your Best Health and Sexual Fitness at Any Age

Author: Steven Lamm

Hard is good, harder is better -- for your health, your libido, your life. Such is the provocative premise behind Dr. Steven Lamm's The Hardness Factor, a groundbreaking book that will change the way men live and love. The Hardness Factor measures male health through the quality of an erection -- perhaps the greatest male motivator for better living (more so than fear of cancer, heart attack, or stroke). The Hardness Factor asks, Can men be hard and in shape for sex their entire lives? The answer is, absolutely. Here for the first time are scientific, evidence-based regimens -- emphasizing nutrition, supplements, and exercise -- to increase erectile quality. By following the programs in The Hardness Factor, you will

  • improve overall health;
  • produce stronger, harder, and longer-lasting erections;
  • increase strength, fitness, flexibility, and vitality;
  • restore self-confidence; and
  • achieve maximum sexual gratification with your partner.

A renowned New York clinician, bestselling author, and a favorite expert on the television show The View, Dr. Lamm offers straight talk for men of all ages in "The Four-Day Insurance Policy," which can provide a quick fix for that upcoming Saturday night (or any other dating emergency), and the more detailed "Six-Week Hardness Factor Program," which will improve a man's sex drive, stamina, hardness, and, most of all, health. This comprehensive guide also includes numerous recipes created by acclaimed chef Waldy Malouf, aimed at promoting nutritional health and jump-starting the libido.

After following The Hardness Factor, you will not onlyachieve optimal health and sexual fitness but also understand why the penis is the best barometer of a man's health.

Publishers Weekly

Lamm's premise is that for men, good health and a hard erection are synonymous. Hardness (or rather, lack thereof) is not just an inevitable side effect of aging, internist Lamm claims-it's the result of poor lifestyle decisions and is linked to a number of afflictions, including obesity, high cholesterol, hypertension, depression and heart disease. The author, medical correspondent for ABC's The View and an early researcher of Viagra, points out that prescription medications aren't always the answer. He outlines a six-week program that focuses on diet, exercise and supplements such as Pycnogenol/L-Arginine, a combination of antioxidant and pine-bark extract that reduces the risk of chronic diseases and results in a "rock-hard erection." Lamm peppers his straightforward text with jokes and entertaining anecdotes from patients at his New York City practice. He estimates that 20 million men aged 40 to 70 suffer from erectile dysfunction. While many never seek treatment, perhaps they will pick up this important book, which is filled with several new insights and tips for maintaining sexual and general health. Dare To Survive or The New Glucose Revolution Low GI Guide to Losing Weight

Dare To Survive: Death, Heartbreak and Triumph in the Wild

Author: Rick Rinehart

Flash floods, plane crashes, animal attacks, avalanches, landslidesthese devastating phenomena all too often claim the lives of men, women, and children in the American West. But some beat the odds, living to tell about their terrifying ordeals. There are inspirational stories of extreme survival and tremendous bravery. Of the hiker who-though armed with only a knife-survived a 30-minute nightmare with a cougar...of the backcountry snowboarder buried alive by an avalanche, saved with only minutes to spare...of the outdoorsman pinned by an 800-pound boulder, who freed himself by amputating his own arm. And there are the unexplainable, senseless tragedies-the little girl whose mysterious disappearance at a national park was never solved...the inexperienced charter pilot who crashed trying to beat curfew in a snowstorm...and the veteran backwoods camper who, despite every precaution, fell victim to a fatal bear attack.

What does it take to endure the impossible? Dare to Survive tackles that question as it vividly reminds us that when danger strikes, survival becomes the ultimate human challenge.
